Chapter 8 Submission
Thinking that the one who gave the silver was the boss, Old Man Yu specially moved two small stools that his son had just made onto the ox cart and took Yu Chaosheng to the village entrance to pick him up.
The ox cart wasn't that fast, but it was better than walking. The two of them were whispering in the back, not paying attention to the time. By the time they finished their discussion, they had arrived at Anning Town.
Old Man Yu parked the ox cart under a big tree outside the town. He did not get in but lay on the cart floor to rest, letting the young couple stroll around as long as they wanted.
Looking at the young couple walking away shoulder to shoulder, Old Man Yu grinned. The old women in the village just liked to talk nonsense. These two kids seemed to have a good relationship. How could they be fighting every day as they said?
Anning Town is close to the water and has a wharf. It is not as backward and depressed as the two had imagined. There are three main streets with shops lining both sides of the streets.
Pan Yingying did not rush to the pier to check out the area, but first accompanied Yu Chaosheng to a bookstore to submit his manuscripts, and took a stroll along the way.
She has the mall as her golden finger and has everything she needs, but she still has a second-generation rich man who is greedy for new things.
I picked up a bunch of messy things before I even found the bookstore.
Resisting the urge to complain, Pan Yingying put the things into the space in an empty corner and finally decided to stop Yu Chaosheng from being so arrogant and buying things blindly.
"If you don't submit your manuscripts now, forget it! And don't let me dream of becoming a great writer in the future!" She put her hands on her hips and glared.
Yu Chaosheng curled his lips, knowing that she was really going to teach him a lesson, so he quickly gave up the idea of shopping and pulled her to the "Miao Bi" not far ahead.
The bookstore was not big and one could smell the scent of ink before entering the door. Pan Yingying didn't want to go in at first, but she was afraid that this idiot would be ripped off by ancient publishers and would be left with nothing, so she had no choice but to follow him in.
There was no one in the bookstore at that moment, except for a boy of about twelve or thirteen who was napping on the counter.
Yu Chaosheng suddenly became playful and tiptoed over to whisper in his ear, "The shopkeeper is here!"
The boy was so frightened by his sudden shout that he almost fell off the stool, causing Yu Chaosheng to laugh.
The young man glared at him and said unhappily, "What are you doing? Don't you know that scaring people to death is a way to scare them to death?"
Yu Chaosheng bowed to him and said, "I'm sorry, little brother. I'm looking for your shopkeeper. Please let him know."
The young man tilted his head and said, "The shopkeeper is not here!" He still remembered the grudge that Yu Chaosheng had given him for scaring him.
Seeing this, Pan Yingying took out a small bag of osmanthus candy from the space under the cover of the basket. This was what she bought in the mall for the two little girls, and it came in handy at this moment.
She put the paper bag on the counter and pushed it towards the young man, with a warm smile on her face, "I'm really sorry, brother. This is his apology. Please help me find the shopkeeper. We do have something important to do."
The boy casually picked up the paper package and opened it, only to find that it contained four neatly cut cubes of candy, sprinkled with osmanthus flowers. He swallowed involuntarily.
"Okay, wait, I'll go call someone!" said the young man, putting the paper bag in his arms, lifting the curtain behind the counter and walked out.
As soon as he left, Pan Yingying raised her hand to hit him, "Yu Chaosheng! Are you childish?"
Yu Chaosheng dodged quickly, "It was just a joke."
Pan Yingying glared at him, a little annoyed, "It's a joke only if others find it funny. If others don't find it funny, then it's abominable!"
This young master has been spoiled since he was young. He wants everything but gets everything, and he has problems in dealing with people.
Yu Chaosheng didn't understand. This was obviously a very small matter. Why was this crazy woman so angry?
Seeing that she was really angry, Yu Chaosheng took the initiative to come over and pull her sleeve with a flattering expression.
Pan Yingying pulled back her sleeves with a cold face. What was he trying to do? Would he pretend to be pitiful and let this go? He shouldn't even think about it. No way!
As the two were arguing, the young man came out with a bearded middle-aged man. "I heard that you two want to see me for something?" When the man spoke, Pan Yingying and Yu Chaosheng knew that he was the shopkeeper.
Yu Chaosheng stepped forward and bowed to the shopkeeper like a scholar, "Hello, shopkeeper. I want to submit an article."
As he spoke, he took out the organized manuscript from the cloth bag he was carrying and handed it over with both hands.
The shopkeeper was slightly startled and reached out to take the thick stack of manuscripts.
Due to time constraints, Yu Chaosheng only wrote about 10,000 words, which is a very popular story about breaking off an engagement among men.
The shopkeeper took the manuscript and sat on a chair nearby. The young man came over quietly and asked Yu Chaosheng and Pan Yingying to sit aside. Because of the bag of osmanthus candy, he also poured a glass of water for each of them.
After a while, the shopkeeper raised his head and looked at Yu Chaosheng with a strange look in his eyes.
Yu Chaosheng sensed it, and he cupped his hands, "Boss, you can go ahead and say whatever you want."
The shopkeeper pondered for a moment and returned the manuscript.
"It's like this, the young master's manuscript is not suitable for our bookstore."
He used a euphemism.
What kind of young lady would come out in public to break off an engagement? And even slap her fiancé in public?
It's the parents' order and the matchmaker's words, so why should the daughter have any objection?
You just quit when you say so, especially when the man's family is in trouble. Aren't you afraid of being stabbed in the back?
What this young man wrote... is too unreasonable!
If Miaobi Bookstore published a book like this, people would line up to spit on it, right?
Yu Chaosheng came with high hopes but left disappointed. He couldn't understand why his manuscript was rejected.
Especially when they were leaving, the shopkeeper said, "Young Master, your handwriting is very good. If you are willing to copy the book, I can give you 120 coins for one book."
Perhaps because it was the first time in his life that his manuscript was rejected, Yu Chaosheng felt like a wilted eggplant, unable to even walk.
Pan Yingying couldn't bear to see him like this, so she reached out and slapped him on the back, "Cheer up!"
Seeing him looking at her aggrievedly, his eyes as innocent as a puppy, Pan Yingying softened her voice again, "Isn't it just a rejection? Which of those great writers hasn't experienced rejection? When you get rich in the future, you can pay for the book yourself. It's no big deal!"
Anyway, she wouldn't pay for it.
Yu Chaosheng responded sullenly and looked up to say something, but the woman had already run away. His breath was stuck in his throat, neither going up nor down, and he felt like rolling his eyes.
The basket that Pan Yingying was carrying contained several bags of osmanthus candy, four pieces in each bag, which she bought specially from the mall. How could she not prepare something when she came out to inquire about things?
There were already people setting up stalls at the dock to sell snacks, but they were all selling multi-grain steamed buns, multi-grain pancakes and the like, and at most some home-made herbal teas, but no one was selling meat.
